Electrical Work for Newer El Dorado Hills Homes
Most El Dorado Hills homes are newer builds. The wiring is usually in decent shape. The trouble is everything people want to add now: a car charger in the garage, solar on the roof, a battery, a spa out back. Prime Electric is a family-owned electrical contractor (CSLB #1061821). In this area, the job is often working out how to fit that new load onto the panel you already have.
Adding an EV Charger in El Dorado Hills
A Level 2 charger needs its own 240 volt circuit, and that circuit has to come from somewhere. Before we quote a job, we look at your panel, count the open spaces and run a load calculation. Some homes have plenty of room. Others are already carrying an air conditioner, a pool pump and an electric range, and the charger pushes them over the edge.
If there’s room, the install is simple. We mount the charger, run the circuit and get it inspected. If there isn’t, we’ll go over your options with you, from a smaller charger setting to a load management device to a full upgrade. We install EV chargers from all the major brands, including Tesla Wall Connectors.
When the Panel Runs Out of Room
A panel can be only a few years old and still be full. Builders sized many of these homes for the way people lived when they were built, not for two EVs and a home gym in the garage.
An electrical panel upgrade gives you more capacity and more breaker spaces. On some homes a subpanel is the better answer, and it costs less. We will tell you which one fits your house and why, in plain terms. If a single breaker keeps tripping, the problem may be one circuit, and a circuit breaker replacement or a rewired circuit might be all you need.
Solar, Batteries and PG&E
El Dorado Hills gets its power from PG&E, so any solar or battery system that ties into your home goes through PG&E’s approval process. Panel upgrades that touch the service also need to be coordinated with them. We plan for that up front so it doesn’t hold up your project at the end.
If you already have solar and want to add an EV charger, bring us your system details. Solar breakers take up space and count against the panel’s rating, and that changes the math on what else you can add.
Lighting Inside and Out
Big rooms with tall ceilings are common in EDH homes, and a single builder fixture rarely lights them well. We add recessed lights, dimmers and under-cabinet strips, and we can swap a dead ceiling box for a properly braced one so you can hang a heavy fan or chandelier.
Outside, people ask us for path lights, patio lighting and power for backyard projects. See our lighting installation and ceiling fan installation pages for more on what we do.
Remodels, Home Offices and ADUs
Turning a bonus room into an office or finishing a space over the garage usually means more outlets, a dedicated circuit or two, and better lighting. Kitchens are bigger jobs. New appliances often need their own circuits, and code has specific rules for counter outlets.
Call us before the walls close up. Running wire through open framing is quicker and cheaper than fishing it later. Our remodeling and additions page covers how we work with homeowners and general contractors.
Repairs and Troubleshooting
Newer homes still have problems. A GFCI in the garage won’t reset. Half the outlets in a room went dead. A breaker trips every time the microwave runs. We track down the cause instead of guessing, then fix it and explain what we found.
Start with our troubleshooting and repair page, or call if something smells hot or a breaker won’t stay on.
